Although there are many crises in the world, there are also many inspiring stories of resilience and change.
As part of the “Stories of Change: Building Resilience, Hope and Action for a Just World” project, we produced three short films portraying people and local communities who are creating hope and shaping change despite local and global crises. Each of the three online workshops below will screen one of these films, followed by a live conversation with the protagonist about the challenges and crises impacting their lives, how resilience emerges, how change becomes possible, and how they have inspired others to take action. We will also discuss the use of the films for educational purposes.
The film features Ben Michael Mankhamba. He is a musician and the chief of Chingalire village in Malawi. He talks about the challenges that rural communities face, and explains how he and the village community are diversifying livelihoods through environmental and resource protection, education, arts and culture, and tourism, in order to build resilience, hope, and change.
